Description
**Fish-shaped besamin box** Besamin boxes [Heb. bassamim, psumin-byksy] served as containers for spices and were used during the end of the Sabbath and were usually tower-shaped. Interestingly, the besamin box from Nowy Sącz is fish-shaped, whose head, connected to a trunk by a hinge, can be opened and tilted to the side. The fish trunk consists of five overlapping segments, each tapering towards the tail fin, each ending with semi-circular scales, each textured and covered in a network of furrows. The individual segments of the trunk are mutually conjoined in such a way that the body of the fish can be slightly bent. **For more images and further information, visit:** https://muzea.malopolska.pl/en/objects-list/696 Inventory number: MNS/3733/S Location of the physical object: Nowy Sącz District Museum, Poland **Digitalisation: Regional Digitalisation Lab, Małopolska Institute of Culture in Kraków, Poland; “Virtual Museums of Małopolska” Project**
