Description

We re-designed a face shield based on the Prusa Face Shield (https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013611 (https://3dprint.nih.gov/discover/3dpx-013611); Model ID 3DPX-013611) that is fabricated and assembled using a 3D printer and widely available materials (laminated or transparency sheets, rubberbands). The Prusa Face Shield uses 4 mounted pegs to attach the shield to the frame. We redesigned the shield frame to use 3 mounted pegs to accomodate for utilization of U.S. standard 3-hole punch instruments. In addition, we optimized the design of the head band to improve comfort and minimize printing time. These design features were utilized to improve the efficiency in producing large volumes of face shields to address acute shortages in personal protective equipment.
