Description

Derived from Michael Kuiper's Folding DNA Model, these models have three changes; 1) The stick and hole mechanism for the hydrogen bonds has been replaced with a magnetic mechanism. 2) The ball and socket clips that connect the nucleotides to the backbone and the backbone to itself have been changed to allow flexibility in two axes. 3) Support structures for FDM printing have been included. To use the magnetic base pair bonding mechanism, glue cylindrical magnets into the holes in the model. At 1X scale, use 1/8th by 1/16th inch magnets, at 2X scale use 1/4 by 1/8th inch magnets, and so on. Be sure to orient the magnets correctly, north pole out on hydrogens, and in on other atoms. It helps to finish one nucleotide and use it as a standard to ensure the orientation of magnets for the rest of the model.
